OXFORD United’s 5-0 thrashing of Peterborough United ensured the club scored four or more goals in three consecutive league games for the first time since election to the Football League.

The U’s had previously put four goals past Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion without reply, with the Posh clash taking the tally to 13 across three matches.

That total also occurred in September 1983, with a 3-2 win at Gillingham, plus victories at home against Millwall (4-2) and Walsall (6-3), and twice under Karl Robinson.

In September 2019, Robinson’s side won 6-0 at Lincoln City, beat West Ham United 4-0 in the Carabao Cup, and won 3-0 at home to Gillingham, with the 13-goal trick repeated in April 2021 with victories against Crewe Alexandra (6-0), Shrewsbury Town (4-1), and Gillingham (3-2).

United meanwhile netted 14 goals in three-game periods during the 1965/66 season (7-1 against Walsall, 4-1 against Mansfield Town, and a 3-3 draw with Oldham Athletic) and in November 1995 (2-0 at home to Bristol City, 3-2 at Barnet in the Football League Trophy, and 9-1 against Dorchester Town in the FA Cup).

However, the only other time the U’s have scored four or more goals in three consecutive matches, since election to the Football League, came during the 1982/83 campaign, when home wins against Folkestone Town (5-2) and Worthing (4-0) in the FA Cup came either side of a 5-1 victory at Leyton Orient.
