DES Buckingham has provided an extensive injury update on the four Oxford United players who missed the 5-0 drubbing of Peterborough United through injury.

Cameron Brannagan and Elliott Moore were forced off last weekend at Burton Albion, with ankle and hip problems respectively, while Will Goodwin hasn’t played for almost a month after picking up a knock on the side of his leg in the 2-0 win at Port Vale.

Left back Joe Bennett has missed the last two games after collecting a knock in training, but is expected to return for Friday night’s game at home to Stevenage.

United’s injury woes were added to against the Posh when James Henry hobbled off late on after the U’s had made all their substitutions.

Buckingham said: “Cam’s ankle we were hoping would go down. He responded extremely well Monday through Thursday, and went out on the training pitch on Thursday afternoon, and it’s just ballooned up a little bit, so he wasn’t really in contention.

“It’s now making sure we have him right for Tuesday. Elliott’s got a little bit of discomfort in his hip. It’s just a joint pain that he’s got, and that’s a pain management thing at the minute.

“Will Goodwin we probably won’t see in the next three league games. He’s aggravated that injury he picked up at Port Vale, and it’s taken a lot longer to respond than we’d hoped.

“If or when we make the play-offs, he’ll be available for them.

“Joe is probably 50/50 for Tuesday, but should be fully available for selection going into Friday night.

“James Henry went over on his ankle and he’s in there being assessed. Hopefully he’ll be okay because I can’t speak highly enough of Jamo since I came in.

“He wasn’t in the squad when I came in, but the way he’s adapted and got himself back fit, there’s a reason he’s on the pitch because he leads extremely well, and when he’s got his chances, he’s certainly taken them.”
