Des Buckingham previously spoke about 'sharing ideas' with former Oxford United manager Liam Manning as he is set to take on the job.
Both have worked for the City Football Group, which was set up in 2013 and has become synonymous with success.
Its most notable success story is Manchester City.
Manning joined the City Football Group in 2019 as the first director of coaching with MLS side New York City FC before later progressing to the role of academy director.

He was then named head coach of the group’s Belgian First Division B club Lommel SK in July 2020 where he led the previously bottom of the table side to a third-placed finish.
Buckingham has had success with both Mumbai City and Melbourne City, which are both part of the group.
Speaking to the Mirror earlier this year, Buckingham talked about the inner workings of the group and liaising with other managers.
He said: “Then there were people like Liam Manning, we shared a lot of our training footage through our shared system in terms of what we'd do with the ball and without the ball.
“That enabled us to bounce some ideas off each other; me to him and then vice versa and across our staffing group. It's an open-door policy and it benefits everyone within the group."
Buckingham recently won the Indian Super League (ISL) with Mumbai City last season putting together a record-breaking 18-match winning run.
He was appointed as the head coach of Mumbai City after impressing at Melbourne City where in his first season in charge claimed their maiden A-League trophy in the team's eleven-year history in June 2021.
