JAMES Henry is prepared to do whatever it takes to help Oxford United’s skeleton squad.

The U’s are again expecting to be without 13 players for tomorrow’s visit of Sky Bet League One leaders Rotherham United following last week’s Covid outbreak.

United fielded a strong starting XI for Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Fleetwood Town, but their problems were illustrated by midfielder Henry moving to right back when Jamie Hanson went off with cramp late on.

The 32-year-old kept a clean sheet during his defensive cameo and would be happy to fill in again.

He said: “I thought I did alright, my legs were a bit tired by that point so I definitely wasn’t a marauding right back.

“I just kept it tight and won a few important headers, so it was quite enjoyable.

“If that’s what’s needed and helps the team, then I’ve got no issues with going back there.”

Karl Robinson’s midweek line-up included eight regular starters, despite the long list of absentees.

Alongside them were Billy Bodin and Jamie Hanson, who have found League One minutes hard to come by, and Connal Trueman, in on an emergency goalkeeper loan.

Henry said: “We still had quite a lot of the boys that have been playing, but the boys that came in have been brilliant and put a right shift in.

“You need that throughout the season, especially in this day and age where you have things like Covid.

“We’ll need those boys that came in again on Saturday.”

Tomorrow’s game against a side who are 15 games unbeaten and top of the table would be daunting at the best of times.

Rotherham are aiming to follow relegation from the Sky Bet Championship with immediate promotion for the third time in five years, having gone up in 2018 and 2020.

Henry said: “They’re top of the league for a reason, they seem to be that classic club that have been going up and down for the last few years so they’re always there or thereabouts in League One.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, but even with the players out we’ve still got a fantastic team.

“Hopefully we can do ourselves proud again on Saturday.”

The U’s are in decent form themselves, having picked up 13 points from their last five league matches to sit seventh in the table.

And Henry insists United are full of belief that they can come away with something.

“We’ll go in with no pressure, we’ll be looking to win but we can go out there and play free,” he said.

“We’re on one of those runs ourselves in the league, when was the last time we were beaten?

“It’s two teams performing well, so let’s see what happens.”
