MIDE Shodipo is aiming to emulate Marcus Browne during his time on loan at Oxford United.

The 23-year-old winger agreed a season-long stay from Queens Park Rangers on deadline day last week.

After training with the squad for the first time yesterday, he is in line to make his debut at home to Milton Keynes Dons tonight.

As well as Rob Dickie, who moved to QPR from United in the summer, Shodipo sought out a reference from Browne.

The pair are friends and it was Middlesbrough’s U-turn over Browne’s availability for a third loan with the U’s which led to them choosing Shodipo.

The new signing said: “Marcus had a very good two loan spells here.

“It got his name out there, it helped him a lot and got him the move to Middlesbrough.

“It just shows what Oxford United can do for you.”

The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international made a dozen appearances in the Sky Bet Championship last season.

But U’s boss Karl Robinson feels he has yet to really fulfil his true potential.

It is a point with which Shodipo agrees – and the aim is to raise the level during his time at the club.

He said: “I feel like this is the time for me to kick on with my career.

“I’ve had a few injuries in the past.

“I just need to get over that, play games and really express myself and show people what I can do.”

He added: “I feel fit and ready to go.

“I played a few reserve games, so I feel my sharpness is there.

“I’ll be ready when called upon.”
