OXFORD United will be back in training tomorrow after boss Karl Robinson gave his players two days off.

The first-team squad was hit by illness in the build-up to Saturday’s win at Accrington Stanley.

It saw four players tested for coronavirus and while they all came back negative, Mark Sykes was not well enough to make the squad, while Cameron Brannagan, Elliott Moore and Sam Long played under the weather.

Karl Robinson: Oxford United's transfer plans unchanged by coronavirus rules

The first team areas will be cleaned while the squad is away and Robinson hopes the brief time away will nip the problem in the bud.

He said: “We’re going to close down for two days after the illnesses and the little niggles that have gone round.

“The medical team have said let’s clear the place, disinfect it and we’ll come back in and get ready and raring to go for Crewe.

“Just with the little things that are going round we’ve asked the players to be sensible with the world we live in.

“We’ve got to make sure we do everything right.

“We know Covid’s out there, so disconnecting from each other for a short period will be positive I think.”
