TIDDINGTON’S tail wagged to see them squeeze past Great & Little Tew by one wicket in the National Village Cup.

Visitors Tew got off to a good start with openers Sam Barnes (44) and Aluptageen Maqbool (38).

Barnes became the first of Joe Elliott’s victims as he claimed 4-23 to get Tiddington back in the first round tie.

Jordon Davis (3-13) also impressed as Tew were restricted to 151-9 from their 40 overs.

It was almost enough, as the hosts’ top order struggled.

But Elliott, Ben Smith and Nick Pykett all made useful contributions to get them over the line in the 36th over.

Their reward in the second round on Sunday is a trip to Cumnor, who beat visitors Oxford Downs by 78 runs.

After posting 222-7, they cruised to victory as Downs were all out for 144 in the 36th over.

There was also a comfortable success for Longford against Eynsham.

The latter won the toss and opted to bat, which looked a decent decision as they reached three figures for the loss of only two wickets.

Opener Ben Wagerfield hit 53, but it took 44 from tail-ender Sam Hollingshead to get them up to 167 before they were dismissed.

Hosts Longford made light work of the chase, thanks to an unbroken third-wicket stand of 105 between Tom Stevens (59) and David Owen (48).

Angus Findlay-Wilson (38) also contributed as they eased home by eight wickets with more than 11 overs to spare.

They will be at home again in the Oxfordshire semi-final, against fellow west Oxfordshire side

Shipton-under-Wychwood.

After opponents Horley were bowled out for 174, Shipton chased it down in 34 overs to win by four wickets.

With the Oxfordshire group oversubscribed for entries, Horspath were placed in the Berkshire section, where they went down to a six-wicket defeat at Cookham Dean.

Put in to bat, Horspath collapsed to 104 all out – a total boosted by 41 extras, including 35 wides – as Yasir Qureshi took 4-18.

Despite a tight eight overs apiece from Horspath skipper Lloyd Belcher (2-14) and Alfie Turner (2-18), opener Patrick Castleden hit an unbeaten 50 off 107 balls to see the hosts home at 107-4 off 35 overs.
