KARL Robinson dedicated Oxford United's play-off semi-final win over Portsmouth to the club's supporters.

An empty Kassam Stadium due to coronavirus measures hosted a tense Sky Bet League One second leg, which went all the way to a penalty shoot-out.

After the game finished 1-1, just like the first leg, the U's and Portsmouth could not be separated until Cameron McGeehan's effort was saved by Simon Eastwood.

After Ben Woodburn, Anthony Forde, Matty Taylor and John Mousinho had all converted, it fell to Cameron Brannagan to put United through.

He smashed the ball in to secure a 5-4 success and send them to the Wembley final next Monday, 90 minutes from a place in the Championship.

Robinson said: "I’m quite emotional and I don’t usually get like this. I’ve known since Cameron Brannagan since he was about five or six and it’s madness how football spins like that.

"First and foremost with Portsmouth – we finished on 60 points each in the league, 1-1 there in the league, 1-1 in the first and the second leg.

"It’s two wonderful teams and it wasn’t a great spectacle for obvious reasons but we both know what we’re good at and we stop each other in a very clear way.

"The next people I want to speak about is I’m gutted there’s not a full house in here.

"For the Oxford fans at home, that was for you. Celebrate in your gardens, sadly they can’t be at Wembley with us."

Brannagan added: "It was a pressure pen and I’m always full of confidence. I totally believe in myself.

"I was a bit nervous but I was never really fazed. I knew where I was going, it flew in the net and we’re on our way to Wembley."

Eastwood's focus was almost immediately on the final, between the winners of the second semi-final between Wycombe Wanderers and Fleetwood Town.

The goalkeeper said: "We’re delighted we’ve got there. It’s a strange situation to be in because you want to celebrate but the job’s only half done.

"I think for a club like Oxford to get into the final at Wembley for a League One play-off is a great achievement."
