IT has been another positive week for Oxford United even if we end it with a blank weekend and no game to prepare for.

But don’t believe it’ll be a free weekend.

I will be at games today and tomorrow and Oxford fans can always go along and support our women’s team in their game at Court Place Farm.

The biggest positive has to be the news that the club now holds the lease on our own training ground.

We will work with the city council to make it a facility that the whole of Oxford can be proud of and use.

But most importantly, it gives us security and reassurance that we can now have a place to properly call our own home.

We moved in about 18 months ago and it probably wasn’t ready at that time, but we wanted it to evolve around us.

There are four areas inside the building.

Downstairs are the changing rooms and the gym and physio room.

Then upstairs you have the dining and break out room, then the first team offices plus the academy zone with a classroom and the academy staff offices.

Everything is kept spotless and one of my first rules was a ‘clear desk’ policy in the offices at the end of the working day, although I am keeping an eye on one or two individuals on that one!

Outside we have fantastic pitches for the first team, under 23s and under 18s and a goalkeeping area for Wayne Brown to work in.

There are warm-up areas and there is plenty of room.

I’m usually in at 8am and most of the staff will already be in there making plans for the day.

Tiger, Zaki and the board have done something quite incredible for this club in getting that place for us.

Niall McWilliams deserves a round of applause on his own because it is his energy and know-how that has helped us get to this stage.

Now we have a fantastic opportunity to use that ground in so many ways.

I am genuinely excited about the plans we have for it and there is a tremendous buzz around the place all day.

Winning games of football is great, but you need the infrastructure and investment behind the scenes as well and it felt like we took a massive step forward this week.

Another big plus for us this week was to have so many young players involved in the game at Crawley on Tuesday night.

Tyler Goodrham broke the record for our youngest ever player: he beats Graham Atkinson and if he goes on to have half the career that Graham did then he will do very well.

Meanwhile, Nico Jones was our captain at 17.

Les Taylor, who was one of the club’s youngest ever captains, is still involved at the academy, and he was as proud as we all were to see those two young men seize their opportunities.
