GARETH Andrew and Russell White starred with the ball as Oxfordshire eased past Shropshire to earn their first Western Division victory of the season.

Hosts Oxon cruised to a 273-run victory at Banbury CC in the Unicorns Counties Championship.

Seamers Andrew (5-38) and White (4-12) ripped through Shropshire, who were chasing a daunting target of 405, dismissing their visitors for 131 in the 46th over.

Oxon had headed into the final day in full control, with Olly Clarke and Richard Kaufman looking to increase their advantage as they resumed their second innings on 190-6.

They put on 45 for the seventh wicket before the former was caught by Sam Whitney off the bowling of Sam Ellis to leave the hosts on 234-7.

Andrew then joined Clarke at the crease, adding some quick runs as Oxon declared on 256-7 after 60 overs, Clarke unbeaten on 40.

The home side had victory in their sights and reduced the visitors to 18-2 and then 38-5 with Andrew and White in fine form.

Joe Butcher then had Jack Edwards caught by Tom Cosford as Shropshire slipped to 69-6.

Whitney (42) and Ryan Lockley’s 36-run seventh-wicket partnership only delayed the inevitable.

And when Andrew had Lockley caught behind, Shropshire fell from 105-7 to 131 all out.

White removed Jack Twigger, before Andrew completed his five-wicket haul when trapping Sam Ellis leg before wicket.

White then rounded off his good day when dismissing Whitney to secure a convincing victory.
