OXFORD City boss Mark Jones has urged his players to seize the moment ahead of arguably the biggest game in the club’s history.

Tonight’s televised Emirates FA Cup first round replay against Tranmere Rovers at Court Place Farm gives the non-league side the chance to make national headlines.

And with a home second-round match against struggling Southport awaiting the winners, the incentive could not be greater.

City were minutes away from stunning their Sky Bet League Two hosts in the initial tie, Kabongo Tshimanga firing a hat-trick only for Tranmere to equalise in the final minute and secure a 3-3 draw.

Jones knows his side will again have to be at their best, but believes they will rise to the occasion

“We know it will be a massive test,” he said.

“Tranmere are towards the top of League Two and will be hot favourites. But a home game with the ground packed out, it will be a fantastic evening.”

He added: “I think we have a great opportunity.

“We will be paying Tranmere every respect, but it’s a game that the boys will relish playing in, particularly in front of the TV cameras.

“If we come together and show the sort of quality we did up there, then who knows?”

One person expecting to be busy tonight is goalkeeper Craig King.

And City’s No 1 says confidence in the camp is high, especially after Saturday’s Vanarama National League South victory at Dulwich Hamlet.

“We’re in a good position going into the game,” he said.

“We are looking to cause an upset, and nothing else.

“We don’t just want a good day, we want to win.

“We won’t accept or be happy with anything other than a win.”

Defender Udoka Godwin-Malife is relishing the biggest match of his career.

“Coming from playing in front of 20 or 30 to this – it’s a big step for me, but I know I can’t be too nervous,” the 18-year-old said.

“We have some amazing players in this team. I think some of them can play league football. I’m sure we can cause an upset.”

City have no new injury doubts, with skipper Joe Oastler set to return after being rested at the weekend.

Jones has shuffled his side recently with this match in mind and is hoping everything falls into place.

“It’s been a difficult juggling act in recent weeks trying to ensure I keep all my players fit and ready,” he said.

“But we go into the Tranmere game in really good spirits and full of confidence.”

He added: “I feel so privileged to be part of this and to be manager of Oxford City.

“I just hope we can do the City proud and cause that upset.”
