It's not even December yet, but steel yourselves - that IS the strains of Mariah Carey you can hear on the horizon.

According to Google, British people started searching for the term "Christmas songs" pretty much as soon as Halloween is over - which means before you know it there'll be Michael Buble everywhere.

And because Google knows everything we've ever searched for, it can also tell us WHICH songs are most popular.

It turns out Jingle Bells tops the list of most-looked for songs since 2004, followed by Fairytale of New York and the world's best Christmas song, Last Christmas by Wham (it's fact, don't @ us).

Here's the list in full...

1. Jingle Bells (various)

Be warned, this version is A LOT. Sometimes you can have too much jazz styling.

2. Fairytale of New York (The Pogues featuring Kirsty McColl)

3. Last Christmas (Wham!)

4. All I Want For Christmas Is You (Mariah Carey)

5. White Christmas (Bing Crosby)

6. Silent Night (various)

7. Merry Christmas Everyone (Shakin' Stevens)

8. Winter Wonderland (various)

9. Santa Baby (Eartha Kitt)

10. I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (Wizzard)

Does this list make you yearn for Love Actually and tinsel, or are you shouting bah humbug and avoiding the shops for the rest of the year?

(If it's the latter, you will no doubt be horrifed to know that data from Google's Trends dashboard says some people were searching for Christmas songs in July...)
