CHARITY fundraisers are looking to swell their ranks with new members and helpers for for the annual Witney in the Pink Day.

The Witney fundraising team from the Abingdon-based charity Against Breast Cancer annually raise about £5,000 from the Witney in the Pink day, but they need support to carry on the good work.

“Witney in the Pink Day is a fantastic event which is supported and enjoyed by the whole town,” said Jeanne Chattoe, chairman of the Witney team.

“This is our major fundraiser each year, but we also run other successful events. We would welcome some fresh blood, fresh ideas and energy.

“Fundraising for the charity is fun and inspiring and anyone who would like to find out more is welcome to come to one of our monthly meetings.

“We also need people to sign up to our register of helpers – people who shake tins, bake cakes and run stalls at our events.

“It can be hard work, but it is fun and there’s great camaraderie among our helpers.”

This year’s Witney in the Pink Day, on Saturday, October 6, will be opened at 10am outside High Street Post Office for the second year running by former The Apprentice contestant Saira Kahn, who lives in Oxford.

For the 11th year running the town centre will be transformed with hundreds of pink balloons and pink-themed shop windows which will be judged by Ms Kahn. There will be a tin collection, bric-a-brac, cake stalls, tombola and lots of on-street entertainment throughout the day. Cake donations would be welcomed.

  • If you can bake cakes or can donate bric-a-brac, or would like to find out more about becoming a member or helper for the Witney Fundraising Team of Against Breast Cancer, email witneyinthepink@live.com or call in to see Mrs Chattoe at Renaissance boutique in Wesley Walk, Witney.
