A 13-year-old boy has died today after suffering a gunshot wound in the head at his family’s home in north Oxfordshire.

The schoolboy was critically injured in the incident at the family’s rented home in Souldern, near Bicester, shortly before 10am on Sunday.

Police this evening confirmed the boy had died today and said they were not seeking anyone else over the incident.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police confirmed that officers were called to Souldern following reports of a shooting.

He said: “A 13 year old boy at the address had suffered what was described as a life threatening injury.

“While the exact circumstances are as yet unclear this incident is not being treated as suspicious.

“The child was treated in hospital in Oxford and his family were with him at the hospital. Thames Valley Police is continuing its enquiries to help the family establish what has happened.

“It is believed there is no third party involvement and so no one is being sought in relation to the incident.

“The matter is now in the hands of the coroner and Thames Valley Police will not be releasing any further information.”

A neighbour said the boy’s father is a colonel in the US Airforce, based at the USAF air base in nearby RAF Croughton.

It was believed he was about to leave the air force and was on secondment to Oxford University.
