PETER LEVEN’S man of the match performance for Oxford United against Aldershot is beginning to get legendary status on Twitter.

Fans have been citing “examples” of Leven’s superhuman nonchalance on the microblogging site after Saturday’s 3-0 win, using hashtag #ThatPeterLevenHeDoesWhatHeWants and making him the top trending topic on Twitter in the county.

Hashtags are words used to help search for tweets. That Peter Leven He Does What He Wants is the fans’ terrace chant in honour of the Scotsman, who signed from MK Dons in the summer.

Tweets have included: “If you call 999 you’re asked ‘police, fire, ambulance or Peter Leven?’”

“When Peter Leven crosses the Swinford toll bridge, they give him 5p.”

“Peter Leven does not ask the bill payer’s permission when voting on X Factor.”

On Sunday evening, he was the county’s hottest topic, according to trendsmap.com, above the birth of singer Beyonce’s first baby.

Mr Leven, who is not on Twitter, said: “One of my favourites was, ‘Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone but when he went to pick up his phone he had three missed calls from Peter Leven’.

“It just shows the size of the club and its fanbase.”

Club spokesman Chris Williams said: “It’s been all in good humour.”
