A number of UK restaurants are to reopen soon after 3,500 jobs were lost following widespread closures.

The Morning Advertiser has revealed that Common Table Group is preparing to imminently open 10 new restaurants including one at the Brewers Fayre site in Bicester.

Specific opening dates are yet to be announced but the paper confirmed that all are set to launch prior to Christmas with some formerly operating under the Bar + Block and Cookhouse + Pub brand names.

They, as well as Beefeater restaurant, were owned by Premier Inn owner Whitbread who made the decision to close all branches earlier this year.

That decision saw over 250 venues closed in September with reports indicating that as many as 3,800 jobs had been lost, though the business did say it was trying to save as many as possible.

Since then over 53 of the sites were purchased by Queensway Inns with 57 purchased by Common Table Group including the Bicester Brewers Fayre.

Reportedly 700 jobs will be created by Common Table's acquisition.

Thomas Anderson, founder of Common Table Group, said: "We’re delighted to be bringing these restaurants back to life.

"They each hold a special place in their local communities, and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests through the doors again very soon.

"Our aim is to create welcoming places where people can come together, enjoy great food and drink, and feel part of their local community."

The former Brewers Fayre in Bicester will be renamed The Two Forts and is reportedly set to open before Christmas.

Offering all-day dining, the restaurant will cater for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a barista coffee offering from Rodeo Coffee.

Others around the UK set to open soon, according to The Morning Advertiser, include former restaurants in Redditch, Portsmouth, Luton and Ripley.

The status of the Oxford Beefeater at the South Milton interchange is not yet known.

Across the country, some of the eateries have been switched over to Whitbread’s own in-house Thyme brand with others set to become new hotel rooms.

Indeed The Northern Echo has reported that plans have been submitted to convert a former Brewers Fayre in Sunderland into new hotel rooms.

If approved, they would create an extra 19 hotel bedrooms, an increase from  89 to 108, along with a reconfigured restaurant for guests retained on the ground floor.

Similar plans have been submitted by Premier Inn for another former restaurant in Chippenham.

Beefeaters was founded in 1974 and at its height in the late 1990s had over 250 locations across the country.

Meanwhile, Brewers Fayre was founded in 1981 and was best known for its Sunday Carvery meals.
