A riverside pub has finally reopened after being forced to close earlier this year following flood damage. 

The Boat House in Wallingford's High Street has reopened to the public following an exciting six-figure renovation designed to give the watering hole a brand-new look and feel.

The Boat House closed its doors in January, following flood damage caused by the river bursting.

It is now reopening following completion of major works both inside and out.

Marie Jayne James, general manager of The Boat House said: “Our brilliant team at The Boat House, are excited to showcase our new and improved pub to the local community.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming both new and old customers.

“The renovation has given the pub a new lease of life, and we’re confident that customers will love our improved facilities, whether they’re looking for a drink with friends, a meal with the family, booking a party, or enjoying a sporting event, there really is something for everyone.”


Alongside seasonal events, The Boat House hosts a regular programme of activities, including regular quiz nights, live music, family fun days and the pub will be getting involved with Wallingford’s Bunkfest at the end of August.

The pub has a big focus on sport and the new pub opens at the perfect time for customers to come and enjoy a summer of sport with the UEFA Euros kicking off on Friday, June 14.

The investment has provided multiple job opportunities to the local community and the pub team has grown, offering around 15 new jobs for locals.  

The pub's interior has received a complete makeover "creating a modern, welcoming atmosphere with new refreshed décor".

Bosses say there is an open plan layout divided into zones for various occasions, including a cocktail area, TV-free restaurant and dining area, as well as a sports bar, with multiple TVs to watch all the sporting action. 

The gardens have undergone a huge transformation as well with new seating for customers to enjoy alfresco dining and outdoor lounge furniture.

The gardens have also had a revamp with new planting and stunning festoon lighting.

The pub offers Sky and TNT Sport, showing all major matches throughout the year.

The Boat House reopened on the June 8.
