Fifteen children will go on the trip of a lifetime to Wembley Stadium thanks to Oxford United in the Community.

The trip, in collaboration with cereal giants Kellogg’s and the EFL, is part of Oxford United's promotion bid at the stadium on Saturday, May 18.

The children will be joined by a parent or caregiver from across the programmes the charity delivers in Oxford, Banbury, and Kidlington.

The selection hinged on the significant personal growth these children have made with the charity’s various initiatives.

The free day out will include refreshments, players' entrance, pitch side and tunnel access and travel home.

They will also join thousands of fans to cheer on Oxford United in the League One play-off final against Bolton Wanderers for a place in the Championship next season.

Matt Everett, chief executive officer of Oxford United in the Community, said: "It is fantastic to be provided such a good opportunity to recognise and reward some of the children in our programmes who have worked hard to develop personally.

"There is a lot of work that goes on away from the spotlight, with so many people who are dedicated to the programmes and have developed so much since joining us.

“We would like to thank Kellogg’s and the EFL for partnering with us so that we can celebrate our unsung heroes and properly congratulate their ongoing achievements.

“We know that attending big events like this can be challenging for families, especially with the ongoing cost of living crisis so being able to give away the trip of a lifetime to so many deserving youngsters is incredible.

“We can’t wait for the big day and look forward to sharing it with our group of community heroes.”

The charity has also partnered with Kellogg’s to deliver free football training this summer to Oxfordshire's schoolchildren.

A total of 600 funded days have been set aside for summer holiday camps, available throughout August in Oxford, Kidlington, and Banbury.

Children aged between five and 13 years are welcome to the camps, regardless of their football backgrounds or skill levels.

Headed by community coaches, the sessions will focus not only on football skills but also on developing team spirit, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.

Mr Everett said: "Our holiday camps are extremely popular and open to participants of all abilities.

"Being able to add free provision to our existing programme will make this more accessible than ever."
