An American TV host descended on Chorley to try the county’s “iconic namesake dish”  - a Lancashire hotpot.

In an episode of Food Network show Adam Richman Eats Britain, host Adam visited The Bees Country Kitchen after hearing it is one of the best places for an authentic hotpot.

Co-owner and chef Mike Bryan cooked the dish - made of lamb, swede, leeks, potatoes, and other ingredients - for Adam and the star only had positive things to say.

After tucking into the hotpot Adam, former host of Man v. Food, said: “I went to chew the lamb… it just fell to pieces

“It’s like if meat sauce… the filling of a good pie and roast potatoes had a baby. The crispiness of the potatoes on top is the best contrast ever. The potatoes inside are like the little bits of bread sopping up the gravy.

“[Beetroot on the side] is the contrast [of flavours] I didn’t know I needed.”

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Mike said filming for the episode took place last October.

He said: “I cooked a traditional oven-baked lamb hot pot accompanied by pickles, made with locally sourced ingredients from our network of independent family-owned suppliers.

“Adam really enjoyed the hotpot and the depth of flavour that comes from top-class produce that is cooked well.”

Mike said he enjoyed working with the Food Network team, adding that he was proud to represent Chorley on the episode.

“Adam and the Food Network team were great fun and totally put [us] at ease,” he said.

“It was amazing to see the business featured on TV, showcasing what Chorley has to offer.”

In Adam Richman Eats Britain, the global food explorer is touring Britain, one incredible, edible place at a time, using the map as his menu to visit places in Britain that have given their name to world-famous dishes.

He also visited Bury in an episode to try black pudding made with a secret family recipe in Bury Market.

The Bees Country Kitchen was established in 2015 on Chorley Market by Mike and Sarah Bryan. During their time at the market, they went on to win multiple national awards and were featured in Good Food Magazine and on BBC Food Programme.

In October 2024, they moved to new premises in Primrose Gardens with a restaurant seating 50 plus and a deli. In October 2023, The Bees was named café/bistro of the Year north west
