People are invited to join a choir that sings songs from shows and popular modern songs, in four-part harmony.

The Encore Singers are a friendly, lively, Dorchester-based choir.

Its ever-changing repertoire includes songs from Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, My Fair Lady and other musicals, as well as songs by Adele, the Beatles and Leonard Cohen.

A spokesman said: "We are always looking for opportunities to expand our range and include songs from a wide variety of genres.

"We try to present three or four concerts every year, each one usually dedicated to raising funds for a particular charity. Charities we have supported include Weldmarhospicecare, Harlequin Care, Citizens Advice, C’Siders and Julia’s house, to name but a few.

"We also sing every year at the Carols In The Borough Gardens and the Light Up A Life service in Dorchester."

The Encore Singers currently have around 35 singers across the voice parts and would like to increase its numbers, particularly in the tenor and bass sections, so it is able to take on more ambitious works and have a greater strength in depth.

The ability to read music is an advantage, though not essential for new members.

No audition is required, simply come along and sing.

The choir rehearses every Thursday evening, during school term time, at 7.30pm in the United Church, 29 South Street, Dorchester DT1 1BY.

Do let the Encore Singers know if you wish to attend a rehearsal, so they can ensure there is music available to use.
