Scarlet Blake, 25, is accused of murdering Mr Carreno after meeting him on a night-out in Oxford on July 24, 2021.

Ms Hidalgo, who took to the stand as a witness, was in a relationship with Mr Carreno for around four years.

The pair, who were both Spanish, met in Sevilla in 2017 through a dating app and moved to Oxford together in 2019.

They lived together and both worked at the BMW plant in Cowley.

Despite breaking up in February 2021, five months before Mr Carreno’s death, the pair remained close friends.

"People were talking about an accident and I was trying to work out how Jorge couldn't get out of that place."

Ms Hidalgo broke into tears and had to pause several times while speaking at the dock.

The trial continues.
