Train lines in Oxfordshire were closed for hours last night after a person died on the tracks.

British Transport Police officers were called to the line in Milton, near Didcot Parkway, at 9.19pm on Wednesday (October 25) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended however a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Great Western Railway announced that all train lines between Swindon and Didcot Parkway were blocked as the emergency services dealt with an incident near the railway.

Train services which run through the stations were cancelled with disruption lasting until around 11:50pm.

This affected long-distance trains to and from London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads, South Wales, and Cheltenham Spa.

All trains through the area were stopped with some being held at stations whilst others were diverted.

Lines have since reopened.
