A Chinese restaurant in Oxford has been given a major refurbishment.

Rice Box on 178 Cowley Road has had a fresh refurbishment and the owner of the takeaway is offering a special offer to customers who choose to eat in to “celebrate the revamp”.

The owner, Zhen Hua Jiang, has previously spoken about the negative impact of low traffic neighbourhoods but he still wants customers to have the best experience, despite the fall in his income.

For all customers who choose to dine in the restaurant, they will be eligible for a 10 per cent discount on food ordered.

Mr Jiang, who has run the takeaway for 25 years, told the Oxford Mail: “I’ve got new comfortable seating and tables.

“I want customers to be able to relax and try out our exciting dishes.”

Mr Jiang said customers could redeem the discount by saying ‘Oxford Mail’ when they sit down.

The special discount code is valid until the end of August.

New dishes which have been added to the menu include Szechuan and Shanghai style dishes.

More options have also been added to the children’s menu, including chicken pieces and chips.

Mr Jiang previously told the Oxford Mail that 40 per cent of his business had been lost due to LTNs and he explained that his delivery drivers were forced to “take different routes to get to their destinations”.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council said: “We have received and continue to receive a breadth of feedback including concerns and recommendations in relation to the LTNs including from residents, business owners and visitors to the city.

“Although the online consultation on the east Oxford LTNs has now closed we encourage people to continue sharing their feedback with us. This feedback will contribute to the reporting that will be presented to cabinet for decision later in 2023.”
