AN Oxfordshire MP has supported Geraint Davies’ Clean Air Bill.

Layla Moran, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has supported the bill which was presented in parliament by Geraint Davies, MP for Swansea West, with Ms Moran as one of the co-sponsors.

The bill would set minimum standards for air quality in workplaces, homes and public spaces and require the monitoring of air quality by government.

It was named in tribute to Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah, a nine-year-old from London who tragically died from asthma induced by air pollution in 2013.

She had over 30 emergency hospital admissions between the first diagnosis of asthma and her death.

Ella was the first person to have ‘air pollution’ on her death certificate. It’s estimated that the annual mortality of human-made air pollution in the UK is between 28,000 and 36,000 deaths every year.

Speaking after the bill was presented Ms Moran said: “I was delighted to show my support for the Clean Air Bill today. We need to take bold action to combat air pollution, which is now a public health disaster.

“It is absolutely vital that the government takes steps to improve air quality, both indoors and outdoors, to protect public health and help us achieve net zero.
