STEVE Seddon had his teammates to thank after being thrust into playing right back during Oxford United’s win at Bolton Wanderers.
The left back helped his defensive colleagues keep the hosts at bay, and even popped up with the crucial third goal as United secured an impressive 3-1 win at the play-off contenders.
U’s head coach Karl Robinson said regular right back Sam Long had gone for a scan yesterday morning and would be waiting for the results to come back.
It means Seddon could again find himself on the opposite side of the back four as United welcome Fleetwood Town to the Kassam Stadium this evening.

Seddon recalled the previous time he played on the right of the defence – while playing for AFC Wimbledon at the Kassam on Boxing Day two years ago – and how his current teammates helped him out.
He said: “I played right wing-back against Oxford at the Kassam on Boxing Day when I was playing for Wimbledon.
“I remember when I was going out, Shorty [Craig Short, first team coach] said ‘it’s the same position but the other side’.
“After a tough first five minutes, it didn’t feel like it but the boys help you out.
“It was just good to get the three points, you don’t want to focus on too much other than that.”
Looking ahead to this evening’s clash with Fleetwood, Seddon said: “At the end of the day, it’s League One – anyone can beat anyone.
“I think you have to take that into every week, and Fleetwood’s going to be just as hard a game as Bolton was.
“I don’t think it really matters who’s favourite or not. If football was played on paper, I’m sure you wouldn’t have the big clubs in this league that you do.
“For us, we’re just going in and not focussing on that sort of thing – we’re just there to try and win the game.”

Seddon isn’t getting carried away by the win at Bolton, and says the players must keep their feet on the ground.
“If we’re serious about climbing up the table and having a good year, then it’s got to start now,” he said.
“I think it’s too early to start talking about turning corners, you can pinpoint times when you’ve turned corners at the end of the year.
“Up until then, we’ve just got to keep our heads down and carry on working hard.”
The goals at Bolton came from unusual sources, and Seddon joked that he, Djavan Anderson and Ciaron Brown would have to improve their celebrations.
He said: “Djavan’s goal was a proper poacher’s goal and Ciaron’s goal, he’s took it very well indeed – he was like a Roberto Carlos with long hair.
“We did speak about the celebrations after, we’ve got to improve them.
“I’m not banking on having to celebrate too much, we’ll worry about keeping them out of our net first.”
