Firefighters from crews in the town and Abingdon both attended the crash as well as Thames Valley Police. They arrived at 08.42am and left the scene at about 09.42am.

The road was closed in both directions until about 10.30am and Oxfordshire County Council's traffic management team urged drivers to take an alternative route.

It said: “"Unfortunately due to the nature of the incident, the road is currently closed both ways.

"If you are travelling in this area, please plan to avoid this route for the next few hours while recovery is undertaken. Take care and stay safe."

An eyewitness said: “It was a horrific smash just off roundabout between Mendip Heights and Dida Gardens, head on between a car and a bus.
