A pensioner died during surgery to fix his broken femur, a coroner’s court heard.

Brian Gray, 85, was admitted to the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre after he was found at his home in High Street, Chalgrove, following a suspected fall on July 23.

Oxford Coroner’s Court heard that he died during surgery three days later, on July 26. Senior coroner Darren Salter said Mr Gray’s condition ‘sadly deteriorated and he died at the end of the procedure’.

His cause of death had been given as ischemic hypertensive valvular heart disease and a fall causing femoral fracture.

A full inquest will take place in January next year.
