THE mum of an autistic student who took his own life after struggling at university is hoping to positively impact the lives of others.

Cameron Fraser died in March, while studying law at the University of Exeter.

The 20-year-old’s mum Shelly Fraser, from Littlemore, has created a GoFundMe, with the aim of helping those who might find themselves in similar situations to her son.

Mrs Fraser, 42, said: “We want to do something in Cameron’s name. We just want to make people aware and see if we can get something set up at universities.

“It’s a way to deal with his loss and to give something back.

“The charity will be a support mechanism for young adults with special needs, to give them support when they’re at college and university.

“It’ll be for anyone suffering homesickness or isolation, so that they have someone to talk to and to listen to them.

“Sometimes, people need that, to have that interaction, and sometimes they just need a hug.

“We want to build something that Cameron would be proud of.”

Mrs Fraser added: “Cameron’s friends have been messaging me when they’ve needed to speak to Cameron.

“He would always put people first, he was the first to help even when he had difficulties of his own.

“As a mum, I wanted him to stay close to home but it was his wish to go and study law.”

An inquest into Mr Fraser’s death will be held in January.
