Several ghosts are said to haunt the hotel causing people to believe it is one of the most haunted buildings in the UK.

The castle was named home to the “most-seen ghost of 2009” with 32 people claiming to have seen Queen Matilda, who was incarcerated in the former prison in the 12th century, from 2006.

People report that she appears as a strange, hooded figure formed of white mist. Other shadowy figures have also been reported including poltergeist activity.

Guests are able to book a paranormal tour of the castle and grounds or even a sleepover in one of the old prison cells.
