A GUILTY plea was made by a man who tried to steal a motor vehicle with a bike spanner.

Richard Hamilton, 36, of Rymers Lane in Oxford, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on Friday, October 30, 2020.

He was caught “equipped for theft” with a bike spanner in Oxford which he had “intended to use in connection with theft”.

Hamilton first pleaded not guilty to the offence but later changed his mind. His plea was then taken into account during sentencing.

Oxford Magistrates Court heard that a community order was made and Hamilton was also ordered to attend drug rehabilitation treatment which was reviewed this month.

He was also made to pay a victim surcharge of £95 but no court costs were ordered.
