Emergency services rushed to a fire, crowds walked the streets of Oxford in protest and tributes were paid to Joey Beauchamp during a busy weekend in the city.

Russia protest

Around 1,000 people packed into Radcliffe Square to stand in solidarity with those living in war-torn Ukraine.

The protest, organised by the Oxford University Ukrainian Society, called on the UK government to step up efforts to support the country and do more to pressure Vladimir Putin.

NHS protest

People took to Oxford’s streets in support of better pay for NHS staff.

It was organised by campaign group SOS NHS and more than 100 people walked from Cowley Road to Bonn Square – shouting ‘pay rise now’ as they walked.

Thatched roof fire

Firefighters from Watlington, Didcot, Slade Park, Rewley Road, Abingdon and Thame rushed to a thatched roof fire in Ewelme, near Wallingford.

It is not yet known whether anyone was hurt.

British Airways 'hardware issue'

TV executive Ed Hall, from Woodstock, was left stranded on the tarmac for more than an hour amid major 'technical issues' that caused significant problems for British Airways.

The airline suffered a major outage, causing cancellations and delays of flights, pile-ups of luggage and leaving passengers stuck on planes after landing at Heathrow.

Joey Beauchamp

Fans laid tributes to Joey Beauchamp at the Ox statue outside the Kassam Stadium, where flags were at half mast for the Sky Bet League One fixture.

In the build-up to kick-off yesterday, Beauchamp's daughters led representatives of both teams in laying wreaths behind the goal.

United's academy sides lined the pitch in a poignant mark of respect to probably the greatest homegrown product the club have had.
