Michelin listed Oxford restaurant 215 Kitchen & Drinks has closed its doors to customers, as it reinvents itself as a ‘new concept’.

The closure came as Paul Welburn, the restaurant's chef, announced he would leave after four years.

215 Kitchen & Drinks in Summertown was listed in the Michelin Guide as a key foodie spot to visit in the city, alongside other restaurants such as Oli’s Thai and Pompette.

The restaurant is the successor to The Oxford Kitchen where it held a Michelin Star and 3 Rosettes from 2018.

While it is closed, the restaurant has said it is “au revoir but not goodbye” as a new restaurant will open on the site soon.

When did it close?

On December 7 2021 the restaurant announced on social media that it would be closing its doors to customers on January 1 2022.

However, the site would not close for good as staff said they were “putting the finishing touches to a new concept launching in place of 215 Kitchen and Drinks”.

At the time it was suggested the new concept would launch around February of this year.

What will the new restaurant be?

Posters in the windows of the restaurant state the ‘new concept’ will be a neighbourhood restaurant/bistro and food delicatessen.

The team behind the restaurant will introduce a food store for customers to take meals, food items and beverages home with them.

This change was prompted by the situation brought about by Covid-19, staff shortages and supply chain issues.

When will it open?

The posters suggest the restaurant will reopen in March, or sooner if the site is ready in time.
