A man was handed a community order after stealing bananas from a supermarket.

Moussa Adoum, 37, of James Street in Oxford was convicted by Oxford Magistrates Court on October 5 for the theft.

The bananas, which cost £1, were stolen from an Oxford branch of Sainsburys on March 2.

His actions were contrary to section 1(1) and 7 of the Theft Act 1968.

In the UK, a person can be sentenced to seven years in prison for theft.

As per the community order Adoum must undergo treatment for alcohol dependency and they have also been ordered to take part in a rehabilitation activity for 10 days.

He was also made to pay surcharge of £95 to fund victim services and costs of £85.
