A SCHOOL has unveiled a commemorative window to celebrate its 450th anniversary.

Burford School held an alumni reunion at the weekend, with more than 100 former students attending.

There was afternoon tea and piano playing by two current boarders, while visitors looked at photograph displays to reminisce on times gone by.

The commemorative window, designed by recent Year 13 student Caitlin Turner and executed by glass engraver Philip Lawson Johnston, was then unveiled.

Everyone received a commemorative bag, while students learnt new facts about their old school houses and gained a new understanding of the original charter.

The West Oxfordshire boarding school was founded in 1571, with the alumni reunion kicking off a range of events throughout the academic year.

The school’s annual Christmas celebration will take place at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford on December 15, while the school will put on a production of Les Miserables with six performances in March and April.

The culmination of the 450th anniversary will be a summer ball on July 9.

Originally housed in what is now the school’s boarding house, the school has grown to just over 1,400 students.

Today, the school provides a home for 100 students from both the local area and abroad.
