A VOLUNTEER group which makes and donates quilts to children’s hospices and women’s refuges held an exhibition to raise money for the work it does.

Margaret Metcalfe is the Oxfordshire co-ordinator for Project Linus, and was approached by London department store Liberty to organise an exhibition.

Liberty provided fabric from two ranges of its children’s fabric, with 45 quilts made.

The exhibition was held last month at the High Street Methodist Church in Witney, and was opened by the town’s mayor, Joy Aitman, and a designer from Liberty.

Ms Metcalfe said: “Quilts were judged and awarded, and it was a very successful exhibition raising a lot of money for this very worthy cause.

“It will enable us to make even more quilts for those children who live in our community, who are in need of a bit of extra care.”

Prizes were provided by Liberty, The Witney Sewing and Knitting Centre, Village Fabrics in Wallingford and Lady Sew and Sew in Henley.

Project Linus began in America in 1995, and since then, has donated 491,806 blankets, with 22,099 donated so far this year.
