THE highly anticipated reopening of The Randolph Hotel is complete as the doors have been flung open.

The 151-room hotel has undergone a complete renovation across the common spaces, lobby and guest rooms, including a spa featuring treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, all of which will be opening in the autumn.

The hotel is now open for overnight stays, with food and beverage outlets to follow.

The Alice, opening tomorrow, will be a new all-day dining restaurant and bar, serving classic British dishes, while The Morse Bar has been restored and remains within the hotel.

Randolph general manager Philip Lewis said the hotel is ‘already booming’.

He added: “It is such an honour to work on the renovation and reopening of a national treasure.

“We are delighted to open our doors this month to locals and visitors alike.

“Already the hotel is booming and has experienced high occupancies from day one.

“As well as working closely with a heritage officer to honour the storied history and original design of the building, it’s also very important for us to maintain strong ties to the local community and offer guests experiences in the area which supports local business.

“For example, we are teaming up with the Oxford Artisan Distillery to host a gin tasting session paired with four courses by chef Chris Emery.”

The Randolph was bought by American chain Graduate Hotels in 2019, and its reopening – alongside a new 148-room hotel in Cambridge – signifies the first European hotels for Graduate.

Ben Weprin, founder of Graduate Hotels, said: “Our team is humbled to be launching the Graduate Hotels brand in two of the most historic and prestigious university communities in the world.

“The legacies that these iconic destinations represent drive the ethos of what inspires us to create memorable spaces to be enjoyed for generations to come.

“We look forward to welcoming global travellers for a uniquely Graduate experience in these centuries old, one of a kind cities.”

Graduate bought the iconic hotel from the Macdonald Hotels chain in December 2019, and construction began in October last year.

Seventy-five out of 84 staff were made redundant, as the hotel prepared for the refurbishment programme.

A series of events are planned at the hotel, including a gin tasting session in partnership with The Oxford Artisan Distillery, and whisky tasting to live music.

The Oxford Cheese Company will also host cheese tastings paired with English wine.

Workshops and classes are also in the pipeline, including a ‘make your own soap’ class led by The Oxford Soap Company, a floral workshop by The Garden of Oxford and ink-making class by Turl Street stationers, Scriptum.
