The first draw of a lottery that supports those in need will take place this weekend.

The Vale of White Horse District Council’s White Horse Community Lottery will have its first draw on Saturday September 18.

The Lottery was set up by the council to help voluntary organisations raise vital funds towards their services, helping support some of the Vale’s most vulnerable residents.

There is a weekly jackpot prize of £25,000 and each ticket costs just £1 per week with 60p from every ticket going towards local charities.

Five players picked at random will be able to nominate their organisation to receive a £100 donation as part of the first draw.

Since launching in June, 36 good causes across the Vale have registered to be a part of this free fundraising opportunity.

Councillor Bethia Thomas, said: “I'm really excited about our first lottery draw this weekend - to celebrate the launch I am pleased we’ve been able to add an additional prize, which will see five organisations that have registered with the lottery, receive £100 each if they are picked by our winners”.

“A little bit really does go a long way, and through buying the £1 tickets on a regular basis, anyone, here in the Vale or further afield, is doing their bit to help support those in need. Ticket sales will continue to support our community fund and the local organisations that have signed up to be a part of it, so it is good news for everyone”.
