The odd pint or two after playing rugby helped Martin Nayler win a Yard of Ale drinking contest.
He is pictured in full flow at the Star in Bucknell Road, Bicester, in 1975 as he left his opponents trailing.
Martin, of Woodfield Road, Bicester, drank the 2½ pints in the three-foot long glass in the fastest time of 40 seconds.

Two others managed to down the ale in one continuous go – Peter Rogers, centre, of Steeple Claydon, near Buckingham, in 61 seconds and Tom Warner, of Market End Way, Bicester, in 73 seconds.
Also in the picture is landlord Charles Shelley, left. The contest took place during a pig roast in the pub garden to raise money for the pub’s senior citizens’ fund.
