A WOMAN has praised her brother for helping rescue a family after a pylon exploded.

The woman – who wished not to be named – said she was going for a walk with her brother in Yarnton when they heard a ‘massive explosion’.

The pair saw the pylon catch fire, which then spread into a nearby garden.

The woman said her brother ran into the house to help the neighbour, her two children and dog escape the incident.

She said: “I think he was amazing, he has a child so acted straight away because he saw children’s equipment in the garden.”

Pictures show the brother’s T-shirt burnt and shredded after rescuing the family.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council said the incident was reported to the fire service at 10.24pm last night.

Two fire engines attended, but no specialist equipment or firefighting was required.

The pylon was isolated by an engineer.

Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “There was a massive boom, followed by the sky turning yellow, and then a few minutes later there were five more explosion sounds.”

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the explosion sounds in Kidlington and Begbroke.
