As Freedom Day marked the full reopening of nightclubs, theatres and music venues, Parkrun events are set to return to the county this weekend.

The popular 5km races will see runners of all abilities and ages set off on courses around the county on Saturday morning.

The events were shelved due to the pandemic and fears of Covid-19 transmission.

Following the easing of restrictions in England on Monday, Parkrun events are back in full swing but with a few changes to be Covid secure.

The Parkrun Covid-19 Framework sets out three states of operation for the events:

  • Events open and operating as per pre-COVID-19
  • Events closed due to the risk of COVID-19 infection being considered too high
  • Events open and operating under this COVID-19 Framework

Those attending events should ensure they are not presenting any symptoms of Covid-19 and are encouraged to travel to the event by foot, bicycle or private transport.

Participants, volunteers and spectators are all encouraged to sanitise their hands, social distance and avoid ‘high risk behaviour’.

Seven Parkruns are back in Oxfordshire this Saturday in Oxford, Harcourt Hill, Horspath, Abingdon, Witney, Bicester and Chipping Norton.

Didcot Parkrun has been cancelled this Saturday due to the field being in use but will return on July 31.

Launched in 2004, Parkrun is a UK-based charity which promotes community participation in healthy recreation. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic 350,000 people walk, jog or run at Parkrun events and another 30,000 people would volunteer.
