BICESTER could get its first Greggs bakery - and it's set to be a drive-thru.

A planning application has been submitted to Cherwell District Council for permission to build a Greggs opposite Wyndham Hall Care Home off the Launton Road roundabout in North West Bicester.

The 1,800sqft building is proposed to be single storey and the site will have 30 car parking spaces and six bike spaces.

Unlike the conventional high street shop where customers walk in, drivers can simply pull up, order and collect their food.

The drive-thru lane has been designed with a particular queuing length to ensure there is a very low risk of the stacking back of cars which could cause an obstruction. The lane is also

designed to be completely segregated from the proposed car park.

As well as indoor seating, the bakery would also have a large outdoor seating area in the front main entrance.

The building is proposed to be in flat metal cladding in 'Anthracite grey' with changes in colour to 'Cornflower blue' - reflecting Greggs' corporate colour.

People will be able to walk to the site as there will be pedestrian access from the A4421 near the Launton Road roundabout.

If the plan gets the greenlight from the council, it will be Bicester's first standalone Greggs and the county's first drive-thru Greggs.

Other drive-thrus in the town such as Starbucks and Burger King are on the other side of Bicester on Oxford Road.

Greggs opened its first drive-thru in Greater Manchester in 2017. Since then, just a handful more have opened in Leicestershire, Sheffield and Newcastle and two are set to open in Scotland and Wales soon.

The plot of land that is proposed to be developed in Bicester consists of common grassland, scrub and woodland habitats in 'poor or moderate condition', according to a preliminary ecological appraisal.
