The UK has recorded a further four Covid-related deaths and 1,926 new cases, Public Health England confirmed.

The health body recently changed the way it records the figures.

Covid-19 cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.

The latest data shows that nearly 70 per cent of the population has received their first dose of a vaccine and 38.2 per cent have received their second.

Only yesterday, a quarter of a million people were given the first jab.
