THE closure of roads and footpaths, in addition to plans for almost 300 new houses are just some of the public notices issued by local councils in the last week.

Each week, local authorities in Oxfordshire issue the notices, which cover roadworks, in addition to both licensing and planning applications.

School Streets: Two Bicester schools are taking part in a trial which aims to make roads safer, while encouraging active travel.

Roads outside the Bure Park and St Edburg’s primary schools will have timed road closures which prohibit access during school drop-off and/or pick-up times.

Temporary supervised barriers have been installed with the closures operating during term-time only.

The scheme will provisionally run for six weeks, and will continue to run until a decision is made on whether it becomes permanent.

Exempt motorists include emergency services, residents and visitors, blue badge holders, school buses and deliveries.

Trials took place at Windmill Primary in Headington and St Christopher’s CE Primary in Cowley earlier this year.

Roads saw orange and white cones, or barriers, placed along them to stop cars from going through, with signs telling drivers not to park in the area.

Resurfacing: Sections of Wood Farm Road in Oxford have been closed since Sunday due to resurfacing works.

The roadworks are expected to take two weeks to be completed, between 7.30am and 4.30pm on weekdays.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.

Exemptions are included for emergency services, for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road.

Bridge replacement: A bridge over a brook is being replaced, meaning it will be closed until the middle of June.

Work on the bridge over Broadwell Brook in Alvescot is set to be completed by June 18.

The effect of the order is to close temporarily bridleway 144/15/10 and footpath 271/1/10 that lead to the brook.

Exemptions are included for emergency services, for the works and for pedestrian access to premises which are only accessible from the closed sections.

Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.

The recommended alternative route for those affected by the closure is via Calcroft Lane, Broadwell Road, Station Road and Lower Farm Cottages.

Footpath closure: A footpath near to a stream will be closed until the autumn while ‘environment improvement works’ take place.

The work will see the footpath north west of the weir at Seacourt stream close, until approximately October 29.

Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works.

Appropriate signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force.

There is a proposed parallel diversion route signed locally.

Faringdon homes: An application for almost 300 new houses has been submitted.

The reserved matters application for 277 homes in Faringdon was submitted to Vale of White Horse District Council.

The application concerns land south of Park Road.

The notice added the application was an ‘environment impact assessment application’.
