THE FAMILY of an Oxfordshire teenager who was missing for five days are today in shock after a body was found in a village.

19-year-old Joseph Harrow was last seen by his parents leaving his address in Didcot in the early hours of Saturday morning, at about 4.30am.

Police officers made desperate appeals for any information on his whereabouts after he had failed to return home by Wednesday.

Investigators said they were ‘very concerned’ for his welfare and even appealed to him directly to get in touch with his family to let them know he was safe.

But in the worst update last night his family were told he is never coming home again after a body had been found while searching for him.

Thames Valley Police said the body of a man was found in Cow Lane in Harwell.

Officers had previously said the location was in Didcot town.

Although the man has not been formally identified, it is understood to be Mr Harrow’s and his family have been told.

His death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

Superintendent Lis Knight, LPA Commander for South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse, said: “Enquiries have been ongoing for Joseph since he was reported missing, and very sadly, we have located a body this evening.

“Although formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe this to be Joseph, and his family have been made aware and are being supported by officers.

“Our thoughts are with them at this very distressing time.

“The man’s death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

After the news was announced, hundreds of people took to social media to share their tributes and messages to his family.

Writing on Facebook, Ashleigh Harrow said: “RIP to my brother I love you with all my heart, I’m gonna miss you.”

Marcus West also commented, saying: “RIP my mate.”

Claire Bowler said: “So very sorry and sad to be reading such awful news. Thinking of his family, may he rest in peace.”

Sarah Cantor said: “I really hoped this wouldn’t be the outcome. To his loved ones, I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you. RIP Joseph.”

Sharna Presley added: “It’s awful news. I couldn’t imagine getting that knock at the door.”

An inquest is likely to be held at Oxford Coroners’ Court, where the coroner will answer the four questions: who the person was, where they died, how they died and when they died.
