Restaurant diners ensured a happy Christmas for two local charities when they raised almost £4,000 over the festive period.

Guests at the two Mamma Mia pizzerias in Summertown and Jericho and at the historic Perch Inn in Binsey gave a voluntary donation of £1 per table reservation throughout the month of December.

Full City Ltd, the restaurant group which owns the venues, then matched the customer donations pound for pound as they traditionally do.

Customers dug deep to donate £1,878.

With the restaurant group's contribution the total reached was £3,756.

The cash was split between the Oxford Food Bank and Helen and Douglas House Hospice.

Full City managing director John Ellse said: “Our festive donations have been a tradition in our restaurants for many years now.

"It’s great to see our customers continue to support them despite the tough year we’ve all had.

"We want to say a big thank you to our customers for not only supporting us but also our two chosen charities."

He added that to date the restaurant group have raised and donated over £35,000.
