HIGH school students got to meet some of the scientists that created the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine during a virtual careers event.

Oxford High School’s ‘Set Sail for your Future’ featured four scientists from the University of Oxford’s Jenner Institute, while a recorded message from Sarah Gilbert, head of the Oxford vaccine team, was shown to pupils prior to the event.

Students in Years 9 to 13 took part on Thursday.

Among the panels were Alex Spencer, Amy Flaxman, Hannah Sharpe and Helen Sanders, all from the Jenner Institute, which was at the forefront of the University of Oxford vaccine.

There were eight panels in total at the careers event, with the others including those from the worlds of business, law and psychology.

Pupils also heard a recorded message from New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who spoke about leadership.
