A SHOPPING centre will extend its opening hours when lockdown eases on Wednesday, in a bid to support retailers and give people more time to stock up for Christmas.

Dalton Park, near Murton, will reopen on Wednesday, December 2 and stores will be able to operate until 7pm every week day up to and including Wednesday, December 23. Those already signed up to take part include Adidas, Lindt, Molton Brown, Next Outlet and M&S Outlet.

Weekend trading hours will be 9.30am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Sundays, and on Christmas Eve the centre will be open from 9am until 4pm.

Bosses say the extended opening hours will mean that people can shop at a time that is convenient for them and allow Dalton Park to manage shopper numbers to keep everyone safe.

All the safety measures remain in place including a keep left system, increased cleaning and hygiene, hand sanitisation points across the centre and reduced capacity.

The Northern Echo:

Jerry Hatch, Dalton Park's centre manager, said: "We have taken the decision to extend our opening hours, not only to support our wonderful retailers but also to give everyone that experience of being able to enjoy some Christmas shopping.

"Our Christmas decorations were installed earlier this month and we've missed sharing the start of our Christmas period with guests. The centre is beginning to feel very festive, and we know people will have an enjoyable shopping experience when visiting Dalton Park."

Morrisons' supermarket, which opened at Dalton Park on Thursday, is open until 10pm Monday to Saturday.
