A MULTI-MILLION pound bid to regenerate Oxford Stadium could be tabled within weeks.

We revealed that businessman Nik Budimir wants to turn the site in Sandy Lane, Cowley, into a multi-use venue and is close to submitting an offer.

His proposals include bringing back greyhound racing, speedway and a dance school, as well as adding a boxing club and potentially a rugby sevens pitch.

Here is how our readers reacted on Facebook and the Oxford Mail website.

REVEALED: Ambitious plan to regenerate Oxford Stadium

PAUL BELCHER: “Bring back speedway, a massively underrated but highly entertaining sport.”

GAVIN PARTRIDGE: “Outdoor velodrome and 50m pool please.”

PHIL TYNAN: “Used to love going to see Oxford Cheetahs (there) when I was a lad.”

TOBY CHRISTENSEN: “A travel link would be great for a link to Bicester and London. The (train) timetable already works.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER CITYVIEW: “One must question the judgement of Mr Budimir.

“If you had £25 million to spend would you invest it into this site?

“Whatever happens they need to get a move on, their client base consisting of people with nostalgia for sport from the 1950s must be declining.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER GORDONTHEGOPHER 78: “Yes, get it back up and running whatever they use it for, be it speedway or even events for children and local clubs.”

WHAT YOU SAID: Three homeless people die in Oxford

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER RECENTLY DECEASED: “Pie in the sky from a business perspective, the best option is still to build a rail station there for the Cowley line and houses.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER THE ENTERTAINER: “Make it the new home of Oxford United.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER MAGNIFICENT SPAM: “How about they just knock it down and build housing and a park on it? It’s an ancient eyesore.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER WAGGLER: “We can’t keep knocking leisure facilities down and build houses on the land without replacing the facility.

“There is a demand for Speedway and greyhounds etc. The facility is there so use it.

“We have all been locked in our houses all year.”

OXFORD MAIL COMMENTER DAVIDRNEWMAN: “He expects to run speedway within a council that has declared a climate emergency.

“Unless it is electric speedway, it will take us further away from carbon zero and increase local air pollution right next to a lot of houses.”
