Here is what our readers said on Facebook: ALEX GONCALVES: “All the cyclists should have insurance and number plates. They should be fined if they do not follow the rules like any other vehicle.

“Very often you need to move to the road so they can pass on the footpaths, they don’t stop for zebra crossings of traffic lights.”

RUSSELL DAVIES: “They need to follow the Highway Code, if I drove my car like they ride their bikes and mopeds I would be looking at a dangerous driving charge.”

LAMAR RY: “It happens all the time, but when the cyclist have the company clothes on then he can be easily identified.

“If bicycles have registration numbers less of these incidents would happen.”

KATHRYN WHITBY: “Time I think, for all services like these have compulsory Cycling Proficiency Tests, and third party insurance.”

DARREN GREENIDGE: “They go way too fast, but that is because they are under pressure to get their delivery to its destination on time.

“The American system of targets is a bane on our society, but it is food, so they have little choice.

“I was nearly knocked over myself a few days ago.”

DEREK OX: “I’ve told the police and council about these delivery riders for over a year.”

BRIAN BURTON: “Should ban all cyclists from the town centre.

“Nothing but a nuisance for pedestrians.”

CHRISTOPHER BENTON: “Deliveroo aren’t ‘all cyclists’ they are a minority of people who use bikes/mopeds and due to being self-employed are encouraged by the company’s design to go as fast as possible, to earn as much as possible.

“They are self-employed and thus, the company isn’t responsible or liable for them.

“If that changed, you would see training, tougher hiring processes etc. as the company would be liable.”

ALAN HUNTLEY: “They ride using their own rules, not the highway code. They need reminding there not above the law.”

PAUL STOCKFORD: “I think some cyclists do tend to think they own the road and the Highway Code doesn’t apply to them.”

KERRY HOUGHTON: “Not just delivery cyclists - cyclists in general around the Oxford area seem worse than other areas.

“I’ve lost count of the amount of cyclists I’ve seen running red lights, riding on pavements to avoid traffic lights, dangerously weaving and just completely disregarding other users.”

SALLYROB HAMMOND: “Do these delivery companies have insurance?

“If I cycled I would definitely have insurance like I have insurance for my car.” ANURAG KESHERWANI: “They cycle like crazy.”

GIORGOS KOUTSOGIANNIS: When driving under work pressure it should be with training and insurance not just to hop on and drive.”

MICHAEL O’SHEA: “The question should be was the food okay?”

On the Oxford Mail website, users also expressed their opinions. BEN SYKES: “More anti-social and reckless behaviour from a member of the cycling community.”

‘INCONSEQUENTIALNOISE’: "I’m surprised that this needs an explanation for anyone, but here we are.

“The actions of one driver doesn’t represent every driver. The actions of one cyclist does not represent every cyclist.”

‘NOSEYAINYTA’: “That’s two people in a couple of weeks they have mowed. Hope they both are ok and something gets done about this.”

A spokesperson for Deliveroo said in regards to the incident: ”Deliveroo takes rider conduct and public safety extremely seriously. We have taken immediate steps to address this terrible incident.”
