AN HISTORIC cricket club are seeking to install new practice nets at their Oxford ground.

Wolvercote CC have applied to build the facility at Cutteslowe Park, which would be used inside and outside of the regular season.

The facility, located next to the car park off Harbord Road, would use a green artificial grass surface surrounded by a permanent perimeter cage.

The design and access statement for the plans adds: "The location is screened from neighbouring residential areas by the trees within the park grounds, and therefore there will be minimal detrimental impact on neighbours’ views."

The cost of a formal scientific noise survey was judged an 'unnecessary burden' on the club due to the location and the facility's minimal impact, which would be 'similar to existing use' of the site.

Access to the park from Harbord Road would be unaffected by the nets, which would not require any more spaces for cars.

Wolvercote were founded in 1863 and played at Wolvercote Common for most of their first century in existence.

The club moved to Cutteslowe Park, which is managed by Oxford City Council, in the late 1950s.
